Tree Squirrel Control

In California, tree squirrel control is strictly controlled.  Several state laws address the control of tree and flying squirrels, and in San Bernardino county, further regulations exist.

If you are having problems with property damage caused by tree squirrels, we can help.

First and foremost, it is very important to identify the species of squirrel you’re having an issue with. While some species may be trapped without a permit, others require special permits issued by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Issued permits often have specific stipulations that must be followed.   The Department, upon receipt of satisfactory evidence of actual or immediately threatened damage or destruction, may issue a revocable permit for the removal and disposition of such squirrels.

When a permit to trap the gray squirrel is issued, the Department may designate the type of trap to be used, and may also require that squirrels be released in parks or other nonagricultural areas.

It is illegal to use poison baits to kill any tree squirrel species.  Releasing any tree squirrel elsewhere is also illegal unless a permit is issued by CDFW.
